The Fantasy Sports Club is preparing for the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament coming up in the next few months, according to Christopher Simmons, club co-president and senior.
“We’re going to probably get the papers and things ready (in the) middle of February,” Simmons said. “We’re going to want to get everything set up well before the tournament starts.”
There will not likely be a call-out meeting, Simmons said, but the presidents will communicate through advertisements on the video announcements.
According to club sponsor Mike Meyer, most people who are interested are already involved or can easily get in contact with the presidents. Participants need not be members of the Fantasy Sports Club to join the event, he said.
As many as 150 to 200 students and teachers have participated in the fantasy March Madness tournament in previous years, Meyer said. To accommodate for the large size of the event, he said, Meyer and previous presidents decided to adjust the rules slightly to save time.
“Basically, if you have a majority of the Final Four, you win,” Meyer said.
The club’s other main event this semester, according to Meyer, will be baseball, which usually draws 12 to 15 participants.
According to Simmons, the club presidents will consider other fantasy sports throughout the year if enough club members show enough interest.
“We don’t want to be a club that just does football and March Madness —that’s it,” he said. “We want to keep going all year round.” By Hafsa Razi <[email protected]>
