Any student that has applied for the K-8 Mentoring program should expect to hear back from social studies teacher Robin Pletcher the week of Feb. 21. As a result of the snow days last week, the interviews with the applicants were pushed back into this week though they should be finished by the beginning of next week.
Only around 25 applicants will be chosen because the size of the class has to meet Carmel High Schools minimum requirements, but remain small enough for it be an “effective program” Pletcher said. Applicants will be interviewed and selected based on their level of maturity, reliability and ability to work well with kids.
The Mentors currently a part of the program also review the applications and present their opinions to Pletcher on who should be accepted. Coco Sullivan, club member and senior, believes honesty goes a long way in the program. “We are trusted to be role models in these kids’ lives so I definitely think trustworthiness is the number one trait,” Sullivan said.
