According to DECA Sponsor Janice Brown, the DECA State competition will take place March 6 to 8. The conference this year, just like previous years, will be held at the Mariott in downtown Indianapolis.
Those who place in the top three for their events will be able to advance to the National conference, which takes place during the end of April and early May.
“On average, CHS sends 25 people every year to the National conference,” Brown said.
DECA members used sample tests and practice simulations to prepare for the State Conference.
For Brad Kremer, DECA member and junior, the
competition is important, but so is the experience.
“I really enjoyed going through this whole process. Sure, winning is important, but it also gives me lots of experience,” Kremer said.
Brown says she agrees with this point.
“To me, whether they place first, 10th, or 15th doesn’t matter. The learning experience is much more important. They’re applying their skills and knowledge to actual situations, in front of real business people,” Brown said. By Chris Li <[email protected]>
