Purim, a Jewish holiday, begins on March 19 and ends on March 21. This school’s Jewish Student Union (JSU) plans to hold a variety of events throughout the week to celebrate.
The club will celebrate Purim with other local JSUs at the Jewish Community Center Teen House on March 19. Jacbo Tehrani, club advertising manager and sophomore said the party begins at 6 p.m. and tickets cost $3. He also said guests are encouraged to wear costumes. Brett Gerstein, club president and sophomore, said she encourages the club to attend the Purim party.
On March 17 the JSU will meet after school in the main cafeteria to eat Hamentashen cookies. JSU club officers will bake the cookies during SRT. “The whole point of the cookies is to be shaped like Haman’s hat,” Tehrani said. According to Tehrani, Haman, a Persian king, wished to expel the Jews but did not succeed.
“I can’t wait. Last year my mom didn’t feel like making Hamentashens, so this year I will be able to have some,” Tehrani said. By Afra Hussain <[email protected]>
