Kids Against Hunger Club to attend packaging event May 21

Kids Against Hunger Club is scheduled to assist in a food packaging event on May 21 at the Noblesville American Red Cross building. During a time where countries such as Haiti and Japan are recovering from disasters, Chris Law, club president and senior, believes that the time is now to lend a hand.

“The world has really been battered lately from hurricanes to earthquakes and people in other countries are dying from starvation, which is completely preventable,” Law said. “Our club is a chapter to an organization that’s made it their mission to end hunger around the globe.”

Kids Against Hunger Club also prepares meals to be sent to impoverished people in the United States. According to club sponsor Maggie Cassidy, Gleaners Food Bank and Midwest Food Bank are some local places where the bags of food are distributed.

“Our own American citizens also receive the food we prepare. The bags are made to support a meal for a family of six with a mixture of rice, chicken flavoring, soy and dried vegetables. The club members have all tried a sample at one point or another and we all thought it was very yummy,” Cassidy said.

A typical packaging event consists of volunteers from all over Indianapolis, Carmel, Noblesville, and neighboring towns. For CHS, roughly five to ten club members attend per event but the club would love to see as many people as possible come, according to Law.

“I would love to see a huge number of CHS participants come to one of the last events for the club this school year,” Law said. “This club has made such an amazing impact on people around the world but if more people come, the more we can all accomplish. If the whole school came out to an event, it could change the world.” By Kelly Clark
