While the usual business for CHTV includes televising school events as well as morning announcements, one of the main events of the year is coming right up. The Carmel Clay Education Foundation (CCEF) Telethon, which helps provide money for teacher grants as well as student scholarships, is set for February 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
According to CHTV teacher Hal Espey, CHTV broadcasts the auditorium events as well as some in-studio interviews with past award winners.
“The auditorium has a lot of elementary and middle school groups that don’t get a lot of recognition outside of their school and this gives them a chance to show what they have done,” Espey said.
Kyle Borcherding, CHTV crew member and senior, said the telethon is a big event for CHTV. “It’s really a great event because it helps raise money for teacher grants and for scholarships for some students too,” Borcherding said.
The National Honor Society sets up phone banks for people to call in as well as calling past contributors to the telethon according to Espey.
Borcherding said the telethon is worth the effort. Borcherding said, “It takes some time to get everything set up for it, but it’s all for a good cause so that really makes it worth it.” By Tommy Sneider
