As the annual Homecoming parade nears, senators have been actively working to make sure the spirited week runs smoothly.
“Everyone’s been helping out. Things have been a little chaotic, but we’re getting everything done, so we’re really excited,” student body president Chris Johnson said.
Even though many new members joined the Senate this year, club sponsor Michelle Foutz said she is pleased with their progress in planning Homecoming festivities.
“I think (the senators are) doing a great job. We have a lot of new senators this year, so it’s a little bit challenging because we don’t have the experience that we’ve had in the past,” Foutz said. “But we have a lot of hard workers, and things are moving very smoothly…I think everything’s going to be great this year.”
According to Foutz, there are no major changes to Homecoming this year. However, one slight difference is the music that will be played while students visit Homecoming booths before the parade.
“We’ll still have music out at the stadium, but it’s WHJE playing instead of individual bands,” she said. “There are too many other things we’re organizing; it’s too hard to track down sound equipment and to get all of the things together that are required for individual bands.”
Johnson said students have “no reason” not to get involved this week.
“(Homecoming) week is the one week out of the year that’s really all about the students,” he said. “It’s about having fun.”
According to Johnson, some effortless ways to show spirit include dressing up for the themed days, participating in playhouse building and coming to the Homecoming football game. As for predicting the winner of the annual class competition, Johnson conveyed nothing but confidence.
“The seniors,” he said. “No question about it.”
