The Africa Awareness Club is pleased with recent events targeted at shedding light on the ongoing problem of the use of child soldiers and plans to continue raising awareness for their cause.
According to Megan Riley, club president and senior, turnout was good for the screening hosted by the Invisible Children organization on Nov. 5. Riley said the workshops in seven of CHS’s AP Human Geography and International Relations classes were also a success, offering students a unique opportunity to speak with a person who experienced the conflict in Central Africa firsthand.
It is likely that in the near future there will be no events of the scale or magnitude of the Invisible Children movie and workshops. Upcoming events with the club remain largely uncertain, although according to Tracy Hadden, club sponsor, it is likely that the club will donate to one of the organizations affiliated with the it, like the Invisible Children or Falling Whistles. According to Riley, the club will probably host a bake sale during lunch as a means of further raising funds and awareness for their organization.
Hadden said that the club will continue “Trying to increase awareness of Kony.”
