Before winter break, Model U.N. members turned in their registration forms and their requests for the countries that they would like to represent at the Model U.N. convention in March. Students have yet to hear back yet, but are anticipating on seeing the results in the coming weeks.
Many members are excited to get their countries and to start to prepare for the Model U.N. convention. “You get to work with people and learn more about what goes on in the world,” Hyesoo Chae, Model U.N. member and junior, said. Chae said that the club usually stands still until students receive their assignments and begin to prepare for what she thinks is the highlight of the club: the convention.
According to Model U.N. sponsor Peter O’Hara, members should start learning about their countries. “I’ve got the country assignments and I am going to have a couple of kids plug in members to those countries and the committees associated with them,” he said. O’Hara said they should be done placing members by the end of this week. He said he will call a meeting around next week to give the members a chance to see their assignments. Students should listen to the announcements to find out when the meeting will be. Following the meeting, students should begin to study and put together their position papers.
By the end of January, the Model U.N. year will be in full swing, and members should prepare for a meeting in the following weeks.
