GKOM to meet Feb. 1

The first GKOM meet up of the second semester will take place on Feb.1 in the designated freshman SRT rooms. According to Mike Meyer, GKOM sponsor and special services teacher, the upper classmen mentors should spend the second semester meet ups focusing on dance marathon and other school wide events.

“It is important for the GKOMs to inform the freshmen on upcoming school events. We want them interacting and building positive relationships that will carry on when their freshmen are seniors and juniors,” Meyer said.

Junior and GKOM Olivia Moore said she plans to fulfill Meyer and also added that at the meeting, they shared tips on how to study for the finals.

“I enjoy talking to my freshmen about the events that are coming up at school. It was important to me to talk to them about finals because I want them to do the best that they can. We also bring food because it helps the freshmen stay focused and they’ll be more prepared to listen to us,” Junior Kyra Stickford said.

According to Meyer, this meeting will be important to continue the foundations being built by the mentors and freshmen students.

“They need to continue to work on the connections. The students that are involved are the best that Carmel High School has to offer, so we want them to be a positive influence and continue the unbelievable culture that we have at CHS,” Meyer said.

“To me, the best thing about being a GKOM is the friendships that I get to make with the kids. It’s cool, I almost feel like their older sister or something,” Stickford said.
