According to Assistant Principal Doug Bird, the construction team is working to complete the new fitness center.
Bird said, “It’s coming along. We’re happy with it. I think the timeline’s going to be pretty close to what we need. Our main goal is to have that ready for when the school year starts in August.”
According to Bird, there was a meeting on April 15 to coordinate the colors of the cardio and weight equipment with the colors of the walls and flooring. Also, during spring break, the equipment in the current weight room was moved to the wrestling room. This transition allowed the construction team to begin creating a hallway linking the current facilities to the new fitness center.
“I’ve looked at the blueprints probably a hundred times and when you’re looking at a normal-sized piece of paper, you can kind of get an idea where things are going to go,” Bird said. “But not until you get down into the space and you see it in three dimensions do you really appreciate what a nice facility it’s going to be.”
David Botros, football player and junior, said that he is looking forward to using the new fitness center next year.
“It just seems like it’s a great step from the one we have right now. According to our coach, he hasn’t seen one like it in all of America. So it’s going to be class one (facilities),” Botros said. “We’re going to have new weights and a lot of ways to get better. Hopefully we’ll have a stronger team. I’ll only be using it for one year, but hopefully you’ll see it become more useful in the future.
