Homework Helpers Club will have meetings rarely from now on as members are now volunteering at the various elementary schools in Carmel. Members are able to volunteer at the elementary schools of their choice, but transportation is not provided by the school.
“People will ride the bus home, and the elementary school is close to them, or they will get driven over (by their parents),” co-president and junior Abby Fields said.
For the rest of the year, according to Fields, the members are just going to sign up, volunteer, and log their hours. According to sponsor Leslie McCarty, all she will do is tally up the hours for the members who need them for organizations like the National Honor Society, and the club will be student-run from now on.
“When I need to tally them up for different service organizations, I will compile them,” McCarty said.
From now on, the club will just run itself, and members will continue the cycle of volunteering and logging their hours on the Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation website.
“Now people are going,” Fields said, “just as a normal club would go.”
