According to Sameer Manchanda, Chess Club president and senior, members of Chess Club will be participating in the Indiana high school level individual state championship. Additionally, Manchanda said Chess Club locker signs have arrived and the Chess Club T-shirt sales are still a work in progress.
Chess Club members are preparing for the individual state championship. Manchanda said multiple members will be competing. The qualifiers for this tournament will be held on Jan. 11. Additional information regarding this tournament can be found on the Scholastic Chess of Indiana website. Manchanda said all students are welcome to compete with Chess Club and practice.
“I’m pretty excited about this year,” Manchanda said. “I’m confident Chess Club will do well, as usual.”
Club sponsor Margaret Winans said Chess Club locker signs are currently being distributed. Winans said club members can approach her or Manchanda to pick up their locker signs.
Chess Club T-shirt sales are still in progress, according to Manchanda. They have not yet been ordered. However, Manchanda said Chess Club will once again be collaborating with Living Hope Club in their T-shirt sales this year. Money from each T-shirt sold will be donated to Living Hope Club, a CHS organization focused on assisting in the effort toward the eradication of female infanticide across the world.
Manchanda said Chess Club will meet every Monday until the semester ends and the club might even have an event over break. Additional information for which can be found on the Chess Club Facebook page.
“The best way to enjoy your break would be to rest, relax and play chess,” Manchanda said.
