Science Olympiad is getting ready for the Northridge Invitational on Jan. 18. The team is expected to leave CHS at 4:30 a.m. with 45 members from three different teams: A team, B team and C team. Each team has 15 students.
The goal for the invitational is to see how well the team performs. Unlike the Whiting Invitational on Dec. 7, mostly upperclassmen will compete in the Northridge Invitational.
In the classrooms of Fran Rushing, co-sponsor of Science Olympiad, and Cynthia Henry, co-sponsor of Science Olympiad, the members are working on different projects. Rushing supervises the students who work on engineering labs such as Mission Possible and Elastic Launched Glider.
“It’s not our strongest point,” Rushing said.
Rushing said she enjoys watching the students work on the engineering projects and improving them as the season progresses.
The team hopes to go to the Science Olympiad National Tournament this year in Orlando, FL, but the team first has to receive first or second place in the state competition in order to be invited. The team finished in seventh place last year.
Patrick Tan, president of Science Olympiad and senior, said, “We’re going to Nationals.”
