According to Assistant Principal Joseph Schaller, construction of the new turf fields will begin in April. In addition, the performing arts building will also undergo construction during the summer.
According to Schaller, the bids to change the turf have been finalized and the project will start near the beginning of April.
“We’re all set to do it,” Schaller said. “Construction will start in April in phases so sports teams, band, and whoever can still go out and use other fields so all four will not be under construction at the same time,”
According to Matt Hodges, marching band member and junior, the new turf will provide for more comfort when marching.
“We practice on a field that’s painted on the blacktop all summer,” he said. “Sometimes the temperature standing on the thing is 20 degrees hotter than on a field, and when it’s the middle of July, you feel it. With the new turf fields, the discomfort from standing on hot pavement during summer practice sessions will go away,” Hodges said.
