Swing Club members prepare for the upcoming dance in the freshman cafeteria on March 28 from 5 to 8 p.m.
According to co-president, co- teacher and junior Shea Rhoutsong, the dance is for the members of Swing Club. The theme of the dance is Mardi Gras. Some of the members have taken their SRT time to make decorations for the dance.
“We are going to decorate the freshman cafete25ria with chain links, glitter and beads. For the members we are going to have pre-made masks,” Rhoutsong said. “I feel proud of myself because I have also found quite a bit of Mardi Gras-styled swing dance music.”
Co-sponsor Caren Rickett is leaving all of the planning for the members of the club, so it will be a dance that they are a part of making.
Rickett said, “I’m just in charge of making sure everything is good to go. I’m like the liaison between the school and the kids. Whatever, they decide to do is what they decide. I really don’t know that much of the details.”
Many members will come dressed up for the Mardi Gras theme. Other high school swing dance clubs, such as Hamilton Southeastern, are also welcome as long as they bring their sponsors. Near the conclusion of the dance, many members plan to go to the Fountain Square.
Rickett said, “I will definitely be going to the dance. I don’t know if I’m going to dress up. It depends on how I feel.”
