The women’s soccer team will travel to Zionsville on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. for the IHSAA Regional Final against Brebeuf Jesuit after defeating Cathedral 2-0 on Oct. 12.
After a scoreless first half, senior Brooke Backes headed in a goal to put Carmel in the lead early in the second half. With just under five minutes remaining, junior Olivia Fitzgerald scored to give Carmel a 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish.
Head Coach Frank Dixon said the game was different than when the two teams met during the regular season. “Cathedral entered the game with a good game plan that was very different from the one they used during the regular season,” Dixon said via email. “This caused us some early problems, but after the first 10 to 15 minutes I thought that we adjusted well and played better as the night went on.”
Junior Molly Pittman said the players are still looking to continue their success. “We want to continue to prove our first in the state ranking,” Pittman said.
Carmel and Brebeuf Jesuit did not meet during the regular season. The winner of this game will compete in the IHSAA Semistate on Oct. 22 at North Central.
