The boys’ varsity basketball team faced Zionsville in the second round of the Sectional on Fri. March 2. Carmel started out hot with the shooting but for every shot, there was an answer. Also, sophomore forward Zachary McRoberts got into foul trouble early which gave Zionsville an opportunity to get the momentum.

Carmel maintained a lead of 24-21 at halftime but the shooting didn’t stop. Led by senior Ben Gardner with 15 points and junior Michael Volovic with 10 points, Zionsville was down and out after three periods, 43-29. Carmel gutted out the fourth quarter and won 57-41.

The team advances to the Sectional Championship to face Hamilton Southeastern. HSE is led by Michigan State commit and senior, Gary Harris, and Michigan commit and junior, Zakarie Irvin. The game is to be played on March 3 at 7:30 PM.
