The 2013-14 HiLite newsmagazine has been named a Pacemaker Award winner by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA). The Pacemaker is the NSPA’s highest award for a journalism staff and is often called the “Pulitzer Prize of scholastic journalism.”
The Pacemaker is broken down by style/size of publication, and HiLite is one of only eight publications in the nation recognized in the Newspaper Tabloid (17+ pages) category.
According to the NSPA, the Pacemaker recognizes excellence in several categories, including coverage and content, quality of writing, leadership on the opinion page(s), evidence of in-depth reporting, layout and design, and photography, art and graphics.
