Design for CHS will begin the Hands-On Education program in order to help children attain more learning experiences. According to club sponsor Jan Mitchener, this will also promote a greater sense of innovation in overall education.
“Design for CHS has one priority, and that is to help our community. This program is essentially just another innovative way to help our society one step further. Personally, I feel that this is a great method in representing education in a more enjoyable way,” Mitchener said.
The Hands-On Education program will begin on Feb. 6 and start on the first Friday of every following month (no end date). It will take place in Indianapolis, at the 37 Place Community Center. Its major objective is to enrich more wholesome learning experiences to Indianapolis’ children, particularly through hands-on experiments, such as designing bridges and historical reenactments. According to the 2015 co-president of Design for CHS, Vikas Maturi, this program will bring an innovative approach to education for after-school programs that cater for underprivileged students.
“In Indianapolis, we still see children who are in need of more educational privileges. I am really glad to see that kids in need will be able to benefit from this. This is a great opportunity to give them more learning experiences in a fun and innovative way,” Maturi said.
