According to the Carmel Clay Schools school board website, the school board will have a executive session 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22. On the same day, the school board will also have a regular session 7 p.m.. Both meetings will take place at the Educational Services Center. Regular sessions are open to the public and media, but executive sessions are closed to the public.
Executive sessions are “used for discussion of sites, litigation, negotiations and personnel,” according to the school board website. The school board will not take action during this event but will take action in the subsequent regular meeting.
About the regular meetings, school board president Layla Spanenberg said, “That’s when we take action for business, policy and any decisions that are being made financially. That’s when we take official voting action on more official business.”
On Feb. 8, the board had a workshop session. During the session, the board was recommended to approve a $1500 signing bonus for new bus drivers, as well as an increase to the attendance incentive for current bus drivers. The current incentive is $75 for one day of absence and $150 for no absences; the new plan would allow bus drivers to receive $225 for one day of absence and $450 for no absences.
Regarding this new initiative, senior Ryan Jou said, “I think it’s a good idea because they’re experiencing a shortage of bus drivers this year. Most of the kids at Carmel Clay Schools ride the bus, so it’s very important. Personally, I’ve experienced a lot of bus crowding, and I think it’d be great if they get a few new bus drivers on board so that it would be easier for students.”
