Speech team plans to have its first call-out meeting of the year in the middle of September, according to speech team sponsor John Love. Love said as of now, not many details are known about the exact date or time of the call-out meeting.
“None of the meets are scheduled yet. Right now, we’re just trying to get the word out about what speech team does,” Love said.
Love said he hopes this year’s meeting has a bigger turn out than last year.
“Last year was a great year. We had about 35 to 40 students total and about 20 of those students went to every meet to participate,” Love said.
Dianya Pu, speech team member and senior, said she is looking forward to this year’s meets.
She said, “We had a lot people on the team last year and I hope there are even more people this year. A lot of students have misunderstandings about speech team and we’ve been trying hard to get the word out about what we really do.”
Love said most students have misconceptions about what the speech team does.
“A lot of students have no idea about what we do. They think students just stand and give speeches in the speech team, but really, it’s a lot more than that,” Love said.
According to Love, the speech team participates in 14 events, including debate, drama and broadcasting events.
