The marching band clinic scheduled for Sept. 12 has been canceled due to the lack of bands signed up for the event. Junior Alan Hill, a student in marching band’s baritone section, said the clinic was a chance for the bands to practice their show and be critiqued upon their performances. According to Michael Pote, associate director of bands, there were too many schedule conflicts with the other bands that wanted to be involved, and there were not enough bands signed up to make the effort worthwhile. “There is no plan to reschedule the event,” said Pote.
Even though the clinic has been cancelled, the Lawrence Central Invitational also planned for Sept. 12 is still scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. at Lawrence Central. This will be the first competition of the year for the Marching Greyhounds. Kristen Pileri, marching band drum major and junior, is confident the performance will impress. “I think we will score pretty high because we are very confident of our show. It’s very creative and we’re inspired to do our best.”
The Marching Greyhounds will be the second to last band to compete and are currently scheduled to start at 8:45 p.m. They will be going up against rivals Avon and Center Grove at the competition. Lawrence Central will also be performing an exhibition but will not be competing for awards.
