Throughout March and April, the Carmel Clay Public Library (CCPL) will be participating in the second annual Hamilton County Reads program, which is organized by five Hamilton County libraries, including CCPL.
“Everyone is invited to read the same book at the same time and then discuss it in their book groups, at their library or informally among family and friends,” Young Adult (YA) librarian Jamie Beckman said.
This year, the adult and young adult novel is The Guersney Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The Book Club at this school will also read the Hamilton County Reads novel to discuss at its next meeting, scheduled for March 25 during SRT.
Jamie Sundin, a member of both the CCPL Teen Library Council and the Book Club and senior, said that students should read the book as well as attend the Book Club meeting.
“It’s actually a really good book. It’s a fun time and there’s food,” Sundin said. “It’s a good way to spend SRT.”
Beckman said she highly recommends that students participate in Hamilton County Reads and read the selected novel.
Beckman said, “If (students) like books that are both sad and funny and also very touching they will love The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.” By Rebecca Xu <[email protected]>
