On Sept. 24, House is hosting Tailgate For Life on the home side of the football stadium in the parking lot. Tickets are $5, and Tailgate For Life lasts from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tailgate for Life was originally scheduled for Sept. 10. According to speaker of the House David Chiang, it was rescheduled because the administration thought having it on the night of the Homecoming game would draw a bigger crowd.
Chiang said House is raising money for a new charity this year. “We fully endowed the Stephen Backer scholarship last year, which was a pretty amazing feat,” Chiang said. “This year, we’re pursuing a new charity, the Ronald McDonald House. Basically, this organization gives people who are getting treated at different hospitals in the area a place to stay. Some of these families don’t have enough money, so we’re going to endow this charity throughout this year.”
House sponsor Sarah Wolff said she hopes this new charity will help attract more students to House events. “The Ronald McDonald House is more well known, so hopefully it will bring in some community members,” Wolff said. “We also have a larger House this year, so we’re hoping our members can encourage other people to come as well.”
Tailgate For Life is before the home football game that night, and is going to have food, student bands and games. “Cabinet is going to be making hotdogs for all the people who attend,” Chiang said. “It’s just pretty much one and a half hours for students to chill and have fun, and support a good cause.” By David Zheng <[email protected]>
