With the new semester underway, Kids’ Corner is currently preparing its new members for the preschoolers’ arrival sometime between mid to late February, according to Kids’ Corner director Kimberly Lenzo.

Lenzo said, “We started out with some team building because (the student teachers) spent so much time in teams so that they can get to work together collaboratively.”
According to Teagan Wilson, former Kids’ Corner student teacher and senior, Kids’ Corner allowed her to work with her peers.
“I loved Kids’ Corner because I was a class where I got to work with others constantly,” Wilson said via email. “We depended on each other so much in the class to keep the schedule running smoothly, and watching the kids grow every day made the class as a whole closer than I initially thought.”
In addition to working on team building, students are studying early childhood education and why it is important, according to Lenzo.
Lenzo also said students will work on preliminary planning during the next few weeks at the media center, Room B177 and the preschool area. Lenzo said preliminary planning involves coming up with ideas for themes, lesson plans, books and bulletin boards as well as looking at the Indiana State Standards of Education and preschooler websites.
Wilson provided some suggestions for new student teachers of Kids’ Corner. “I would say to form friendships with your (classmates) because you truly will depend on them during class,” Wilson said. “Also, don’t be afraid to have fun because some of the crafts will get messy, but that’s how you make the best memories.”
