Student Venture starts small group Bible studies

Student Venture, the high school outreach of Campus Crusade for Christ, will begin having their small group Bible studies this week. The group is also brainstorming event ideas to help raise money for their winter conference, Fastbreak.

According to Kathryn “Kate” Shanklin, Student Venture member and junior, Bible studies meet weekly at various locations and are divided by grade level and gender. Sophomore girls meet Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Kailee Post’s house, freshmen boys meet Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. at Jack Morris’ house and junior girls meet Fridays after school at the Simply Sweet Shoppe. However, there is a prayer group that meets Mondays after school in room E124 that is open to anyone.

“I like Student Venture because it’s an awesome way to reach places your churches can’t,” Shanklin said.

The group is also planning on hosting a prayer-a-thon to help raise money for the winter conference Fastbreak, but the time and location are to be decided. Fastbreak is for all of Student Venture in the Midwest and will be in Xenia, Ohio from Jan. 15-17. The cost is anticipated to be between $100 and $200.

Brian Clark, Carmel Student Venture director, said via e-mail that all events and outreaches are planned by the Student Action Leadership Team (SALT) that meets at his house Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.

“There will be other events and such, but just not planned yet,” Clark said. “Some of it is spontaneous and just led by students as it should be.” By Katie Utken <[email protected]>
