Counterpoints continues to audition through February

Counterpoints, CHS freshman choir, wraps up auditions for next year’s choir placement and moves on to prepare for its upcoming concert, scheduled to be on March 23. According to choir director Ann Conrad, the choir only has a few more auditions to go before it starts to fully focus on the March concert.

“We’re in the middle of auditions right now, so they’re (members of Counterpoints) actually doing the auditions. And we’re going to have three or four more class periods of that and then they’ll get ready for the March concert,” Conrad said.

Conrad said that some decisions for her group of Counterpoints have been made regarding the new concert. The group will be performing an a cappella piece and“’Til There Is You” from the “Music Man.”

“Those are the first two songs, and I haven’t decided the last song yet. I can only speak for my group, though, not the other three,” she said.

Counterpoints’ directors plan this concert to be more of a typical, stand-up-and-sing type of concert with no choreography for the non-show choirs. According to Conrad, the students should be adjusted to this even though “Holiday Spectacular” incorporated choreography.

“I think the students understand that there has been no time to learn choreography since we’re losing all these class periods for auditions. You know, choreography takes so many class periods to learn that we’re going to be cutting it close just to get the vocal stuff done,” Conrad said.

Vessi Doncheva, a member of Counterpoints choir, said that she is glad that auditions are over so she can start preparing for the March concert.

She said, “Auditions were nerve-wracking, and now that they’re almost over I can just focus on performing with a group. It’s more fun that way.” By Dhruti Patel <[email protected]>
