The three new members of the Comedy Sportz team, sophomores Megan Arrington, Leo Biette and Bill Pfohl have joined returning members and seniors Austen Guevara, Jillian MacNulty, and Peter Marshall to form a six-person team.
The new members have everything to learn about Comedy Sportz, according to team sponsor Jim Peterson. During practices, they learn the basic skills of improvisation and the rules of the games and how to feel comfortable playing them.
“That is why the training period is so long in the fall,” Peterson said via e-mail.
According to Arrington, the new members have to learn about their teammates and working together as a group. They also have to learn the five rules of improvisation which are the basis of Comedy Sportz and the games, she said, and develop the ability to think quickly and be ready to commit to a character at any time.
“As a newbie on the team, there are a lot of rules and guidelines that go on behind the shows, not just (being) funny and (making) people laugh. You have to get to that level, and the only way to get better at anything is to practice,” Arrington said via email. “That is very much the truth in Comedy Sportz.”
