This summer, CHS will undergo more construction designed to improve the school’s safety and facilities. According to assistant principal Doug Bird, the School Gate Guardian security system is scheduled to be installed at Doors 4 and 13 over the summer. Also, the planned construction on the lower level of the E rooms that would have replaced the carpet with tile has been delayed for another year.
The major project over the summer will be the beginning of the new weight room and gyms. According to Bird, the construction will begin when ground is broken in June or July. The construction will not be completed over the summer. The new weight room will be constructed in the parking lot behind the old weight room. According to Bird, since the parking space will be lost, there is a chance that a new parking lot will be constructed for the school.
“There’s definitely more interest in building more parking for staff and students,” Bird said.
Junior Nick Naum said he would like more parking, and believes added parking space would benefit the school.
“I hope the school decides to build more parking by the natatorium,” Naum said. “I think it would be great if more students could park closer to the school and have less of a walk in the mornings.”
