The next GKOM meetup will take place on Nov. 12 in the designated freshmen SRT rooms.

“We want them interacting and building positive relationships that will carry on when their freshmen are seniors and juniors,” Meyer said.

Junior and GKOM Olivia Moore said she agrees with Meyer and also added that at the upcoming meeting, they will discuss upcoming events with their freshmen.

“I enjoy talking to my freshmen about the events that are coming up at school. At the next meetup, I’ll probably discuss things about the first semester finals, as well as winter break. We’ll also hopefully talk about some Dance Marathon things too. We also bring food because it helps the freshmen stay focused and they’ll be more prepared to listen to us,” Moore said.

According to Meyer, this meeting will be important to continue the foundations being built by the mentors and freshmen students.

“They need to continue to work on the connections. The students that are involved are the best that Carmel High School has to offer, so we want them to be a positive influence and continue the unbelievable culture that we have at CHS,” Meyer said.

“To me, the best thing about being a GKOM is the friendships that I get to make with the kids. It’s cool, I almost feel like their older sister or something,” Moore said.
