The last fundraising event for Dance Marathon is scheduled to take place on Feb. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Freshman Cafeteria. The annual event will include a spaghetti dinner and a silent auction, according to House sponsor Sarah Wolff. Tickets to the event are $5.
“Last year we had over 400 people but not quite 500. Every year our attendance (for this event) seems to go up,” Wolff said. “It’s a good final event before Dance Marathon because, although students do come, it’s more of a community event that everyone can enjoy.”
According to speaker of the House Meredith Baranowski, the auction will include items signed by pop singer Justin Bieber and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.
Dance Marathon is then scheduled to take place on Feb. 23 from 4 to 10 p.m. The event will include food, learning a choreographed dance and games. Students who have registered will have to have raised at least $90 by that date in order to participate. All of the money donated by student participants and through fundraisers since August 2012 will be donated to Riley Hospital for Children at the end of the six-hour event.
“Everyone has their own reason to support Riley or why they dance at Dance Marathon, but I think many of us can agree that we do what we can…to give hope to the kids there, and let them know we’re fighting alongside them,” Baranowski said.
Last year’s efforts raised a record amount of $261,229 and over 850 students attended, making it the nation’s largest high school dance marathon.
