This week, the Africa Awareness club will participate in a bake sale fundraiser to raise money for their affiliate organizations. The sales will take place on April 15-19 and April 23 during all lunches and during the April 17 late start. Students can purchase a home-made cookie for $1 for delivery to someone (ideally a prom date, according to club sponsor Tracy Hadden) and can make a personalized card to be delivered with the cookie.
Proceeds from the event will go to the organizations affiliated with the Africa Awareness Club, including the Invisible Children and Falling Whistles, organizations focusing on the humanitarian crises in Uganda and the Congo.
The focal point of this event will primarily be to raise funds, rather than awareness, and as such the event will be framed more as a pre-prom event than as a relief fundraiser. “We wanted to keep it pretty neutral so we could get as many people as possible interested in sending them,” explained club president and junior Megan Riley.
