Club Med has scheduled its first meeting to be on Sept. 9, according to Omeed Malek, Club Med president and senior. The location for club meetings will be, like last year, in Club Med sponsor Sarah Gillim’s classroom (B215). Meetings will most likely be on every other Monday.
Gillim said she is extremely excited to begin the new year. Club Med has not only expanded internally, with new events and ideas to improve Club Med, but also externally, through the advent of an Indiana Club Med. This new club is a non-profit organization among different Indiana school systems, including Fishers High School.
“We’re always trying to get new speakers, and we even tried to get the forensics team at IUPUI to come to school,” Gillim said.
According to Anaelle Zimmowitch, Club Med co-president and senior, Club Med will most likely repeat some previous events, such as corpse dissections and surgeries on axolotls (salamanders who have the ability to regrow limbs).
Although Gillim said students last year were required to pay a small registration fee of $2, she said she is unsure whether a similar fee will be required this year. Zimmowitch said Club Med usually raises money for club events through this fee, a bake sale, and the sale of wristbands. According to Zimmowitch, Club Med may add permission forms this year.
“Our goal is to connect with more and more school systems, in order to brainstorm and work together and be able to grant the most possible opportunities for our club members to enjoy collectively,” Zimmowitch said.
