The marching band directors have organized a raffle fundraiser for a car on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. at the band’s Community Night. Proceeds will raise money for the trip to Rose Parade, according to Chris Kreke, director of marching band and associate director of bands.

Grace Hahn, marching band drum major and senior said any adult can purchase a raffle ticket for $100 by going online at www.carmelbands.org/carraffle or by contacting Kreke. Ticket holders will be entered into a drawing, and the winner will have the opportunity to choose from six cars, including BMWs and Mini Coopers. He or she will also receive $10,000 to alleviate the tax burden. According to Kreke, ticket holders do not have to be present at Community Night to win. The marching band will be limiting the total number of tickets sold to 3000.

“Having the support from people who help raise money (by buying tickets) is what will make the trip possible,” Hahn said.

Kreke said the raffle is organized by the parent organization, and an accounting firm is helping to keep track of ticket sales. The group is advertising the raffle through Twitter and Facebook, according to Hahn.

According to Kreke, the proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards lowering the cost for the marching band to go to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.

“It’s an opportunity for us to represent the school, the city of Carmel (and) the state of Indiana, but it does cost a significant amount of money,” Kreke said.

This is the first year the marching band has been invited to perform in the event, which will be seen by 100 million people worldwide through broadcast, according to Kreke.

Kreke said, “It is a fantastic opportunity for the group to perform on that kind of stage with that kind of public viewership. Every ticket (sold) helps us make another step towards making it out to Pasadena.”
