On Feb. 22 Science Olympiad will be on its way to this year’s Regional competition to see if it will qualify for the State competition which will determine whether the team will continue on to the Science Olympiad National Tournament in Orlando, FL.
The club plans on taking two teams with 15 people per team to participate in the Regional competition. The club plans on taking its best competitors who can range from freshmen to seniors; it all depends on how the team member has performed throughout the season. Teams can’t be stacked either so each team is allowed to have no more than five to seven seniors.
“I think we have a better chance of doing well this year than we did last year because I think our team is better organized,” Cynthia Henry, club sponsor and chemistry teacher, said.
Even though Henry has only been the club’s sponsor for two years, she has seen a tremendous amount of improvement compared to her previous year working as the sponsor. Henry says she enjoys watching the students work and have success come along with their hard work.
The team continues to work on old problems for its labs and building projects to hopefully improve them for this weekend’s competition.
“There’s nothing new,” Henry said. “We continue to work on old problems so we’re trying to get all of our building events prepared.”
