The ASL Club will make a visit to the Deaf Nation on April 26 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The club has been planning the trip for a little over a month to the expo. Indianapolis is one of 10 cities to hold the event each year.
“It’s an interesting event,” said ASL Club sponsor Joseph Wheeler. “There are free booths set up to sample new technology for the deaf. There will also be many deaf people from the Indianapolis area, and it gives the students signing practice.”
Deaf Nation prides itself as the foremost deaf tutoring and trade show in the country. The Indianapolis event will feature special deaf guests such as Olympic short track speed skater Michael Hubbs and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Matt Hamill.
“We’ve been looking forward to this for a few weeks now, so it should be really fun,” said ASL Club member and senior Will Arnold. “It’s great to go and learn more about the deaf community.”
The ASL Club is also planning an end-of-year picnic at a yet to be determined date and location.
