Women’s swimming team wins 26th State Championship

The women’s swim team added a 26th straight State Championship to its long list of accomplishments this season. The State Championships took place Feb. 11 and the women scored 329 points, enough to take the title. Lots of buzz surrounded the team as they competed to extend their state record and catch national records. Head Coach Christopher Plumb stated that the media attention did not affect the women’s preparation and mentality.

“It was business as usual,” Plumb said. “We looked at this meet as any other meet and treated it the same way.”
Before the State Championship the women’s team won the MIC Championships and Sectional Preliminaries with demanding performances. However, Plumb felt the team still had areas to improve.
“During the MICs and Sectionals we swam well enough to win but not what we were capable of,” Plumb said. “During State we sharpened up our turns, had better finishes and more succinct relay starts which led to our success.”
Plumb is not the only one celebrating the teams’ victory. Kathryn Riedel, swimming team member and sophomore, said she is excited about the win and that this year’s team had something different about them.
“This year we had a good core group of seniors that I thought led the way for us,” said Riedel.
