Men’s swimming and diving team scheduled to compete in Sectional on Feb. 14 and 16

The men’s swim team practices together in preparation for its Sectional. The team started practicing on Nov. 5 and has had an undefeated season. The Sectional will be at the CHS Natatorium on Feb. 14 and 16.

The men’s swimming and diving team will host Eastern (Greentown), Hamilton Heights, Kokomo, Maconaquah, Noblesville, Northwestern, Tipton, Western and Westfield on Feb. 14 for Sectional prelims and then again on Feb. 16 for Sectional finals. “Preparing for this meet truly started on Nov. 5 when the season started but now there will be a stronger emphasis on conserving energy in order to not be sore or exhausted,” head coach Chris Plumb said.

The men’s swimming and diving team has gone undefeated during their normal season. They first competed against Center Grove where they won 123-60. Next, they faced North Central and won 105-81. Over winter break the team continued to train and was scheduled to have two swim meets, one against Hamilton Southeastern and West Lafayette and the other against Columbus North and Homestead, but these were cancelled due to weather. “We would have loved the extra opportunities to compete but this didn’t halt the team’s progress or ability to be prepared for the championship season,” Plumb said.

After winter break, the team faced Noblesville and won 128-55. They competed in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) championship and placed first out of Ben Davis, Center Grove, Lawrence North, North Central, Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South and Warren Central. Most recently they won against Ben Davis 143-40 on Jan. 29. “The boys have had an excellent season and truly have worked hard. Hard work pays off and hopefully we will see that at sectionals and state.” Plumb said.

The men’s swimming and diving team has won the Sectional tournament for the past five years and the State championship for the past three years. Sophomore Zach Soper said, “The championship meets are always really exciting. Last year, we only won state by a half of a point. We’ve been training hard for about three months and I look forward to seeing how our team performs in the upcoming weeks.
