Chinese New Year and Holi are approaching this month and next month, causing Nida Khan, Indian Student Alliance (ISA) president and senior, and Matthew Zheng, CHS Epic and junior to worry about the progress of their plans for cultural events. Neither have spoken with their sponsors.
“There was a lot of planning going on, everything was tentative nothing was established so I mean now that it is February already, I don’t think that there is enough time to set up a big event,” said Zheng.
Khan on the other hand still believes that the cultural events can happen. She believes it is the events that are more important than the holidays. “I feel like it doesn’t really matter about time. It’s more about the idea of everyone coming together and doing something that incorporates all different types of culture. I remember last year I participated in a Holi event that happened almost a month after.”
The events would need teacher participation for the successful orchestration of the plans. Khan said she heard a lot of interest from teachers at the homecoming booth earlier this year.
Khan said, “That gives me hope in that this event would be successful because there are people who know things that you wouldn’t think that they would. Basically they know more about the culture than they let on or that you would think that they would know, because most people don’t know a lot.”
