According to art teacher Sarah Wolff, Ceramics 2 is working on pottery wheels and practicing an ancient scratching technique called scraffito. Scraffito is the practice of scratching off colored clay called engobe to reveal a different color beneath the exterior.
Ellie Avagian, Ceramics 2 student and freshman, said she really likes this project.
“I’m working on a coil pot and I’m going to start the scraffito process soon. When we first got assigned this project, I thought it was going to be really hard, but now that I’ve done it, it’s not that bad,” Avagian said.
