Design for CHS will once again begin the project “Agent Recycle” to encourage more students to recycle in CHS. According to club sponsor Jan Mitchener, Design for CHS implements creative projects for the community, making them both enjoyable and effective.
“It’s really neat seeing Design for CHS helping our community in such innovative ways,” Mitchener said. “The creativity that comes along with these types of projects really does benefit our society in a sense where people can have a good time and also help the community.”
“Agent Recycle” will make its reappearance starting on March 7 and will last until the end of this school year. “Agent Recycle” is a service project aimed to promote recycling within the school. Design for CHS members will construct large transparent boxes, where students at lunch will be able to recycle plastic bottles and paper cartons. These boxes will be available in all cafeterias at CHS and will be open to anyone throughout the whole day. By recycling in these boxes, students will be additionally voting in a poll, as each box will represent an option to a particular survey question. For example, the question may be, “Who is better, Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck?” Students can recycle into the respective boxes that correspond to their preference. As students vote by dropping in their recycled goods, people can see the live results of the poll as the stacks of recycled goods pile inside the transparent drop box.
According the Vikas Maturi, co-president of Design for CHS and senior, this program’s essential purpose is to promote recycling within CHS.
“During lunch, you see so many people throwing away things that should be recycled instead,” Maturi said. “By implementing this interactive program to our school, students will be less wasteful and provide an environment where recycling is more apparent.”
