Michelle Foutz, sponsor of Economics Club, creates a list of returning members of Economics Club. She also arranged teams for the NEC. Foutz said she had to make hard decisions when creating the teams, as she wanted to make sure she was choosing the strongest economics students. “Again, I’m just trying to figure out who will be the best at moving forward beyond the state level and potentially getting us to nationals,” Foutz said
Economics Club is preparing to hold a call-out meeting in order to recruit new members. Michelle Foutz, sponsor of Economics Club, said there is not a set date for the meeting but will take place sometime in October.
Foutz said the call-out meeting is mainly targeting upperclassmen who are interested in the club, because few freshman are interested in Economics Club.
“I sent some of the returning ones (members) to the activities fair in the Freshman Center… We’ve got a couple (of freshmen) that were interested…but most of the time we don’t have that many freshmen who are involved, because they haven’t had Econ yet,” Foutz said.
Via e-mail, Michael Wang, returning member of Economics Club and senior, said he is excited to prepare for competitions with a new team after the call-out meeting.
“For now, (I am excited for) just getting together with my teammates, new and old, to plan for a new year of competition,” Wang said. “I’m excited to see what we can do this year, and that starts at our first meeting.” By Alanna Wu
