Located in Jamestown, Indiana, KD Stables and Entertainment Haunted Hayride and Barn is nearly a 30-minute drive. Open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Halloween, the drive there creates the perfect setting for a night of scare. Driving on a country road, passing a cemetery or two and seeing barely any cars around helps build up the eerie, frightening feeling that haunted house seekers look for. When arriving there, the place doesn’t seem like much. There are barely any decorations; the barn is white and frankly, it didn’t seem very impressive. Two bonfires are available for attendees to warm-up, while smores kits and other treats are available in the café. Saturdays are incredibly crowded, so Fridays or Sundays are probably the best time to go.
Attendees can either choose to go through the haunted hayride or the haunted house. The hayride costs $12, while the haunted barn costs $10. If the brave decide to do both, it costs $18. The price is fair for the two, but if money is tight, the barn is recommended.
The hayride, while not terribly scary, is more entertaining and fun than anything. It’s essentially hayride that takes you into the woods, where you experience joy and horror. The multitudes of actors are amusing, while the decorations are awesome. The music during the whole event is probably the best part. This is perfect for those with a weak heart and looking for a good show.
The barn, however, is a different story. The haunted barn is a creative twist to the regular old haunted house. Essentially a maze, the barn forces you to crawl, walk, more like run, and slide your way out. Along the way, the different scenes and settings are fantastic. Some of which are just plain creepy. The only downside is that if you don’t have a great sense of direction, good luck. The workers rarely show you the right way to go and most of the time, you’re in the dark. You may be forced to crawl and slide, but you’ll also fall, trip and bang a few heads as you fight your way out of the maze. The injuries are worth it. It was incredibly fun and frightening, even forcing you to use some teamwork to get out.
All in all, KD Entertainment and Stables is a great choice to go to if you have the time. A little bit far, the place was worth it. The creative twist to a haunted house was fun and adds to the scariness. The hayride was enjoyable and amusing, a great comic relief for the haunted barn. If you’re up for the drive and the challenge of crawling and sliding your way out, KD Entertainment and Stables is definitely recommended. By Darlene Pham <[email protected]>
