Ben Vereen to perform in auditorium on March 7

On March 7 at 7 p.m. Ben Vereen, a Tony award winning Broadway entertainer, is scheduled to perform in the Carmel High School auditorium. According to auditorium director, Jason Sipe, from what he understands the show will consist of a combination of musical numbers, monologue and question-answer with the audience. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Carmel Community Players (CCP), a local community theatre organization.

While the performance is scheduled to be in the auditorium, it is not an event specifically meant for students here. According to Sipe the reason the show will be presented here is because the auditorium is one of the biggest venues located near the CCP’s location in Clay Terrace. “Until the Performing Arts Center is completed we’re the biggest house in town,” he said.

As far as technical work goes, Sipe said the Ben Vereen show is fairly simple. There are no big effects or props. A piano and two microphones are among the few things Vereen requested. “The word elegant comes to mind,” Sipe said.

“The patrons coming out don’t look to be wowed by explosions and huge set pieces. This is a world class performer who’s bringing his art to our stage.” By Meredith Boyd <[email protected]>
