Comedy Sportz has a new sponsor for the 2022-2023 season after their previous sponsor retired at the end of the last school year.
Grant Steckbeck, theater teacher and the new sponsor for Comedy Sportz, is excited about what a new season will bring for this sport that revolves around improvised comedy.
“I’m very excited to be a part of Comedy Sportz. This is my first year here in Carmel so I’m looking forward to a successful Comedy Sportz season,” Steckbeck said.
Ella Asher, the team’s co-captain and senior, said she hopes that without COVID-19 and with Steckbeck, the team will become more organized.
“With COVID and everything, there wasn’t much of—everything was online, everything was virtual so it was kind of hard to schedule and be organized,” Asher said. “And last year, (Comedy Sportz) wasn’t as organized as it could have been, you know, it was kind of like improvised.”
Steckbeck said he hopes he can provide more stability for the Comedy Sportz team, which some members such as Asher said the team was lacking.
He said, “From my understanding, in the past, it has been entirely student-run. So to add, I guess, an adult perspective, (we will have) scheduled rehearsals just so that everyone is on the same page.” By Ryan Sharp
