The human rights club Amnesty International will host its annual Night of Rights event on May 8. The three to four hour event on the Saturday night will be held at the stadium by the tennis courts. The purpose of the night is to spread awareness for the club’s topics this year with guest speakers and music. Further details are still being finalized, according to Jennifer Davis, sponsor and art department chairperson.
The club will host its next meeting on April 14 at 3:15 p.m. in Room C128. At the meeting, members will be making posters to advertise Night of Rights and finalizing the preparations.
“We need to get the bands, the speakers and the food,” Tim Chai, vice president and senior, said.
Also, according to Chai, the topic that the club has discussed throughout the school year and will once again be emphasized at Night of Rights is the issue of human rights in businesses, especially the practices of Shell Oil Company and Coca-cola.
The club has also joined efforts with Invisible Children club to host the Night of Rights event. By Steven Chen <[email protected]>
