Counterpoints Choir reviewing past concert, preparing for “Holiday Spectacular”

CHS freshman choir Counterpoints has started preparing for the “Holiday Spectacular” concert, which is scheduled to be on Dec. 1 to 5 in the auditorium. This is a quick turnaround for Counterpoints as it just recently finished its debut performance, which went very well, according to choir director Ann Conrad.

“All our choirs performed beautifully; it could be our strongest start in many years,” Conrad said via e-mail.

This year there has been a bit of a delay to the Counterpoints post-concert routine, however. After the concert, Conrad had an accident and injured her back, and was not present during the class periods following the concert. Therefore, when Conrad returns Counterpoints will review its past concert, and how Conrad thought the performance well. Students are also allowed to add any comments or questions during this time about the performance. After this, the choir will move on to its next project, which is “Holiday Spectacular.”

According to Conrad, Counterpoints will begin learning the new music starting this week. The specific pieces have not yet been decided, but Conrad said that there will be a mix of new and old songs.

“We’re still talking about the specific tune titles, but I know they will be working on some traditional carols including Silent Night as well as some other songs not so familiar to the audience,” Conrad said.

Even though Counterpoints won’t be as busy as other choirs, it will still be having four evening rehearsals, one Saturday rehearsal and five performances, all having to do with Holiday Spectacular.

Vessi Doncheva, a member of Counterpoints and freshman, said that Holiday Spectacular is definitely exciting for her and her friends.

“This is the concert that everyone hears about. It’s a lot more work, but it will be so much fun when we actually perform.” By Dhruti Patel <[email protected]>
