Academic Decathlon plans regular meetings after school on Tuesdays in A317. According to sponsor Wendy Gerardot, the team has begun preparation for its competition on Jan. 22 in Fort Wayne, IN.

“In the following weeks, we will have local businesspeople come in for interviews to help members prepare with speeches,” Gerardot said.

According to co-president and senior Michael Luo, these local businesspeople come from a variety of backgrounds.

“Coach Sinclair contacted a couple of local area business people and people who are just familiar with the public scene, giving speeches or conducting campaigns. Basically, it’s just people who have public experience,” Luo said.

Luo also said that the team will be preparing to work on other academic areas as well, especially for underclassmen who have not taken as many classes.

“We have a bigger team, and our outlook is to always get better each year, and we have done that successfully so far. We’re looking to get to the national competition so we have a far foresight,” Luo said. By Andy Yang <[email protected]>
