Academic Superbowl prepares for first meet in February

The five captains of Academic Superbowl have been working to prepare their teams for the first meet, which will occur toward the end of February.

According to Nikhil Dharan, team captain for the social studies team and junior, serving as a captain requires organization and planning.

“The approach I took was to divvy up the study guides into different assignments,” Dharan said. “Everyone got an assignment and then the next team meeting we would share the assignment and make sure everyone knew the material.”

Unfortunately for captains like Dharan, although all of his members may know the material, not all of them are able to participate in competitions. Out of his nine members, only five are allowed to compete for each team.

According to club sponsor Matt Dillon, this cut has been made for financial reasons.

“We’ve had our number of players in the twenties before.  That was when we took the long bus.  The shorter bus is less money, but unfortunately it is also less people,” said Dillon. “It cuts our numbers back to about 13, maybe a little more.” By Olivia Walker <[email protected]>
